Board

Spring Rain is governed by a small Board of Directors who volunteer their skills and experience to provide leadership and financial management. Each board member is deeply committed to our core values of financial transparency, wise stewardship, and personal integrity.

Financial Monitoring

Our partnership with Indian leaders has a financial dimension. We aim to safeguard Spring Rain’s funds against fraud or misuse. Over the years we have implemented systems of accountability which keep the use of funds transparent and easier for us to track.   

Use of Funds

It’s not hard to spend USA funds in northern India. The scale of human need is staggering. Throughout the years we have wrestled with the complex question of how to use foreign funds in a responsible manner. Our use of funds is guided by a few fundamental beliefs:

• Preserve the dignity of every recipient.
• Don’t do for others what they can do for themselves.
• Honor the local standard of living. Try not to elevate someone far above others.
• Aim for long-term stability and self-sufficiency of those receiving aid. Guard against dependency.
• Be aware of the ripple effect of foreign funds. Avoid harming the reputation of the person or family receiving aid.
• Carry out charitable activities through the hands of local leaders who have a direct relationship with those receiving aid.

IRS Form 990

Spring Rain is in full compliance with federal and state regulations for nonprofit charitable organizations in the United States. We have filed an IRS Form 990 since Spring Rain’s beginning, and have also filed an annual financial report with the state of Oregon. These are public records and we are happy to share these reports.

We are glad to answer your questions, give you access to our books, and provide you with timely and accurate information about your donation history. We commit to 100% transparency about how we are using your donations.
