The Work
Learners
When someone chooses to follow a guru (teacher), their goal is to become like the one whom they follow. In this fractured and uncertain world, we believe the person and teachings of Jesus Christ offer something unique and compelling. Although Jesus was born into a lower-class family in ancient Israel, the Bible presents him as the healer, teacher, and savior of all people. His words provide instruction and comfort to anyone who will follow him. His invitation is simple:
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12).”
Spring Rain was started in order to share this message of hope. When a person expresses interest in learning more about Jesus, we provide teaching and mentoring to help them discover the God who created them and who offers them a radically new kind of life.
Leaders
One of history’s great wrongs is the West’s political, social, and economic domination over other peoples and lands. India is one of the places where this ugly sin of colonialism has occurred. Spring Rain strongly opposes foreign domination and control. We celebrate India’s journey to become one of the greatest countries on earth. When we look at the Indian people we see beauty, dignity, and intelligence. We see a people eager to discover and embrace their potential to be all they are meant to be: socially, economically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. When we look at the Indian people we see the image of God.
Spring Rain holds strongly to the core belief that the Indian people themselves are the best ambassadors to announce the good news of God’s kingdom. We see ourselves as visitors and servants. Our role is to respectfully come alongside local leaders as they embrace and carry out a vision to establish blessing and hope in their own communities. We teach, equip, encourage, and mentor these front-line heroes. They stand in their God-appointed position as thinkers, planners, strategists, and leaders in their own land.
Children
One the biggest tragedies in the world is the devaluation and exploitation of children. Poverty, war, displacement, abuse, and abandonment are devastating to these most vulnerable members of the human family. Almost one-quarter (25%) of India’s population is under age 15. Millions of these children are growing up under severe hardship and face a bleak future. In the face of this massive need, we choose to look to the example of Jesus who took small children into his arms and commanded his own followers to bring the children to him. We place high priority on giving children and youth physical safety, a loving home, basic necessities, good education, and a positive hope for their own future. Spring Rain embraces the responsibility and privilege to rescue vulnerable children and enable them to enjoy the blessings of a better life.
Compassion
As a Christian organization, Spring Rain seeks to obey the Biblical command to love your neighbor as yourself. Who is our neighbor? Every person, young or old, rich or poor, male or female, healthy or disabled. We look for opportunities to provide food for the hungry, medical help for the sick, shelter for the homeless, and education for those searching for opportunity. As we work in impoverished communities, we are grateful for partnerships with trustworthy Indian leaders who offer wisdom and guidance on the best ways to provide compassionate aid.
